Pledge to buy handmade

I pledge to buy handmoade on 24 Oct, 2007.
I 100 % support this campaign, hope that every handmade fans also support it.

Why buy handmade?

Buying handmade is better for people, better for the environment, and better for giving truly special and well-crafted gifts. The ascendancy of chain store culture and global manufacturing has left us all dressing, furnishing, and decorating alike. The connection between producer and consumer has been lost. Buying handmade helps them reconnect.

We encourage all consumers to be aware of the social and environmental implications of their purchases.

Below is a list of resources that can get you started in the right direction:

http://www.coopamerica.org/: Co-op America is a not-for-profit membership organization founded in 1982. Their mission is to harness economic power—the strength of consumers, investors, businesses, and the marketplace—to create a socially just and environmentally sustainable society.

http://www.sweatfree.org/: A Network For Local action against Sweatshops

http://ilsr.org/: The Institute For Local Self-Reliance. The Institute’s mission is to provide the conceptual framework, strategies and information to aid the creation of ecologically sound and economically equitable communities.

Sewing Machine Cozy

Keeping this first, will made one for my future sewing machine :P

Shawnee of Life with Monkey has sewn up a cute sewing machine cozy and embellished it with flowers made from felt.

Make a Camera Cozy

We bought this camara last year, but without casing, I always complaint that. Today, I am glad that I found something to keep & protect our camera. Thanks to CRAFT ZINE for recommending Evil Mad Scientist's project to me.

Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories show you how to make a neat camera cozy! - This camera cozy protects your LCD and keeps your lens cap on when you toss your camera in your bag or are just carrying it around. It also provides storage for a spare set of batteries as well as a location for the dead ones you're taking out. It was designed for the Canon S2IS and S3IS, but the pattern can be adapted for other similarly shaped cameras. Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories.

Knit Tissue Cozy Pattern

Another craft from CRAFT Newsletter.

Customised clock

I got this idea from Janice, she told me that her bf made her one on Valentine's Day. So I go home and give a try, making this for my wedding soon. I felt so warmth to have this table standing clock in our room, because every morning open eye will see this clock, create a brand new feeling for my life after wedding.

It's easy to make, just open up the clock layer by layer, and make sure you remember how to fix it back, haha :P

Melody

Nowaway, it is easy to get DIY felt kit from any gift shop. I bought Melody DIY kit, it included the template, felt, thread, etc. Very easy to do, step by step. I think this is for beginner and the cartoon all is very commercial, for instance: hello kitty...........

After exploring flickr.com & etsy.com, i no longer like commercial pattern; instead i like creative pattern.

Sewing Machine vs Projects

I wish to own a sewing machine, I guess this is what a crafter always dream for. Beside is the cutest sewing machine I have ever seen in my life, so cute, rite? Unfortunately not mine, it belongs to a crafter in Japan.

As a beginner, I plan to buy a basic & small SINGER sewing machine, price range RM 699-799. Few crafters recommend BROTHER's sewing machine to me, it is cheaper than SINGER.

Do you have one? Share with me, when you bought it, what brand and for what purpose.

Projects I plan to make:
1) Passport wallet
2) Eco Bag (Environment Friendly / Recycle Bag)

Be Glad of Life

Finally I found the real meaning of this phrase "be glad of life". This is my last year birthday present by Chris & Joey, I kept this journal for almost 6 months until I fall in love with crafting then I started to write on the 1st page. This is all about my crafting history, experience, planning, projects.......

I love it so much, I wish to share all my crafting life with it. <3

This website recommended by Ciyou, she swapped many cool stuff from there, I will try it soon.

Swap-bot is a service and a community.Swap-bot facilitates group snail mail and internet swaps. It removes the hassle of collecting swap participants and assigning swap partners. Swap-bot is also a community where swappers can connect, share, and have fun. Swap-bot was created in the summer of 2005 by Rachel and Travis Johnson, a designer and computer programmer. Swap-bot was originally created to be a tool used by blog owners to facilitate mail swaps with their readers. The site has grown from a simple utility to a meeting place where at any given time there are over 600 public swaps being hosted. Swap-bot is completely free for our users.

Etsy.com (Buy/Sell Handmade)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etsy

Etsy is a website which focuses primarily on providing the general public with a way to buy and sell handmade items. Many have compared the site to a wide open craft fair, because it grants sellers their own personal storefronts where they may list items for a small fee and showcase their handcrafted goods.

I personally recommend anyone who love handmade stuff to join Etsy, it is a platform where you can sell & buy unique handmade stuff from there. And the listing charges are far more attractive than Ebay.

Little Felt Cuties

My 1st craft book is about "Making DIY Greeting Card"; so this is my 2nd craft book. Bought it from Popular Book Shop (Queensbay) in June 2007, attracted by the "bride & groom". Planning to made it for my wedding end of the year.

After i made "bride & groom", i made "scholar" for my friend's convo; followed by "little witch" due to Harry Porter trend at that time.

Wish to own more craft books soon.
